MAGIE’s Purpose: Make your Life a Lot Easier

We designed and manufactured a magnetic bracket that could mount to a curved surface of varying sizes.

We have been selling the MAGIE bracket for a few years now and it has really been an incredible product. As the saying goes necessity is the mother of invention, and this is certainly true of the MAGIE.

…We quickly saw how useful the MAGIE was for not just turbines but other applications.

When we switched over to using laser trackers for internal alignment of Steam & Gas turbines we really struggled with the mounting options available. Our Alignment Engineers needed a way to mount the Laser Tracker quickly and with stability while still being in line of site of the components that needed to be measured. There was no way to mount the Laser Tracker to all of the curved surfaces that are available in steam and gas turbines. That is when we decided to make a bracket that would fill this need.

We designed and manufactured a magnetic bracket that could mount to a curved surface of varying sizes. We fastened a 3 ½” Survey ring on it to connect to a Laser Tracker mount. After some field testing and alterations, the MAGIE was born. We quickly saw how useful the MAGIE was for not just turbines but other applications.

We were granted a US patent and started selling the MAGIE. What we have been most surprised about are the metrology devices that are being mounted to it. We have clients mounting probing arms, scanners as well as laser trackers to the MAGIE. The 3 1/2” threaded survey ring makes it a universal fit for almost anything. It is also being used for applications that we had not thought of.  The MAGIE has mounted metrology devices on the outside of pipes inside the hull of ships and horizontally in a vertical compressor.

We have been very pleased with the overall market reaction to the MAGIE curved surface magnetic bracket. We are in the process to develop and testing a new MAGIE Model for non-ferrous materials that will be projected to release on fall 2017.
